Reverse: 1999 - Character Improvement Guide

Reverse: 1999 features a main story mode, as well as other challenging game modes that will force you to consistently improve your team before you can clear them. In this article, we will discuss various methods of improving a character's overall combat efficiency.

How to Improve Your Character's Overall Combat Efficiency

How to Improve Your Character's Overall Combat Efficiency

Leveling Up

You can access the level up menu using two ways: directly from the Crew (character menu) or by accessing the character selection before starting the battle. Leveling up is straightforward as you only need two materials to increase the character's level: Dust and Sharpodonty. Both of these materials can be farmed from Resource Maps, collected passively from the Wilderness menu, or purchased from the Pawnshop (in-game shop) The amount of Dust and Sharpodonty required for each level will increase based on the character's current level and Insight rank.

After reaching the maximum level, you won't be able to level up further until you increase the character's Insight rank. Increasing the character's Insight will reset the character's level back to LV1 while retaining current stats and allowing you to level up the character even further.

Insight

Each character has Insight tiers depending on their rarity. 6-star and 5-star characters have three insight levels while all other character tiers have only two Insight levels. Upgrading a character's Insight tier is integral to the character's growth since it applies the following benefits:

  • Improves base stats
  • Upgrades the Inheritance ability (passive ability)
  • Increases Resonate level limit
  • Increases level cap
  • Unlocks the character's alternate splash art and portrait

As soon as you improve the character's Insight level, their level will reset back to LV1. But don't worry, the character's current stats are retained and this allows you to level them up further until they reach the limit. When this happens, they need to improve their Insight tier once more to continue leveling up. This will continue until you fully level up your characters, which also involves maxing out the Insight tiers.

After unlocking the character's splash art, you can toggle whether you want to view the character's original or alternative garment in their respective character profile screens by tapping their signatures in the middle of the screen. Alternatively, you can also select which garment/skin to wear by tapping the clothes hanger icon in the top-left corner.

Psychube

Psychubes are special items that can be equipped to your characters to give them stat bonuses and other beneficial effects. Similar to characters, they can be leveled up and uncapped to improve their stat bonuses. 5-star Psychubes have Amplification effects as well that you can improve by "feeding" them with the same Psychube as material.

You can also set the character's preferred Psychube which will allow them to automatically equip the set Psychube. However, while characters in the same party can have psychubes with the same name, only one character can equip a specific psychube. So for example, you have two copies of the "Venomous" psychube - one is LV20 while the other is LV1. One character can equip the LV20 while the other can equip the LV1 copy. In the event that two characters have the same preferred psychube set on them, only one of them will have it automatically equipped when they're selected together in the same party.

Portray

When you get additional copies of a character, you'll obtain their Artifices instead. You can use these items to unlock the characters Portray which can significantly improve their incantations power and effect. Each character has five Portray levels and they can be improved in order. Artifices have no other use so it's highly recommended to use them immediately as soon as you obtain them.

Resonate

Each character has a Resonate space. As you level up their Resonate level, they'll get more "ideas" in the form of Tetris shapes. Each idea represents various stats and you have to fit all available ideas in the space provided. Upgrading the Resonate level will unlock new ideas and increase the space (number of slots) where you can place the ideas. You can arrange these ideas manually or you can just use the Quick Load feature to automatically fill the slots with any ideas (shapes) available to your character.
